Schools

Our clients are always strained with high medical bills in hospitals, which cripple their income and hence making them susceptible to absolute poverty. Sadly this affects their job performance due to absenteeism perpetuated by ill health. With time they end up losing their jobs.

This has propelled us to, among other interventions, start a school so that our clients’ children get subsidized education. Children usually miss out on education when their guardians are constantly ill and strained with medical bills. So we enrol these children into our school and ensure that they acquire quality education with practical skills for self sustenance.

Since our target populations are the rural and urban poor, we have included provision of education services to children through not only our schools but other partnering schools.

Junior Schools

Education is a gift that we all deserve, despite the lack of privilege that one might be born in.

It gives everyone a chance at being a better participant in society. It affords us the opportunity to dream big and better.

It is in this very spirit, that we reach out to the most marginalised around us, extending as much as we can mobilise to offer them an education — at least at the Junior level for now. We hope to offer even more, as and when many more sponsors are willing to lend us a hand.

Skills Training

Given the nature of our economy, not that many seem to have a fair shot at meeting their basic needs. Formal employment isn't easy to come by and when it does, salaries just don't seem to stretch that far.

We, at Biggi, have noticed how dire this situation is and come up with a number of skills training programmes. We believe these, when properly delivered, broaden not only the revenue streams of households, but also enhance a family's overall prospects.

So, twice every year, ordinarily in September and December, we run a couple of week-long sessions mainly focussed on cottage skills.

Women empowerment

Women and young girls face a number of challenges whenever society is at its lowest. When poverty and ill health strike a family, the first victims of such situations tend to be the mothers or young girls, who on several occasions are considered the de-facto home makers.

When they're well equipped to shoulder such challenges, the family stands a decent chance at coming out of their dark patches stronger.

We understand how badly our society needs this, and endeavour to organise several seminars and workshops that sponsor a variety of women initiatives.

Organic Farming

In order to boost the immunity and overall health of the many still leaving in under-privileged settings, one has got to have access to decent meals. We've for the past decade been engaging in a range of organic farming activities, including seasonal crops and free range livestock.

We regularly interest a section of our communities in visiting our demonstration farms, where we teach them several techniques on how to grow and rear organic nutritional foods.

Many have learnt quite a lot and are helping to teach others as well.

Herbal Research

Uganda's health sector is one generally considered as still in its infant stages. Access to proper health care eludes a vast majority of those living outside cities and towns.

Despite the several government interventions through vaccination and general primary health care, a score of other challenges still persist. Not many can afford decent balanced meals, proper treatment for common tropical diseases let alone visits to health centres.

We, at Biggi, are investing heavily in alternative more cost effective herbal and nutritional solutions to all this.
